Your 2021 Gemini Season survival guide

Toodle loo Taurus! It’s been lit, but your days are done: on Thursday, May 20th, the Sun is shifting into chatty and charming air sign Gemini, ushering in another zodiac season.

With this new season comes new vibes. Gemini season, which lasts from May 20th to June 20th, is a season of curiosity, connection, and communication. At least, that’s half of what you can expect during Gemini season. The rest of the time there will be some change, some trickery, some commotion, and maybe a little discord. As exciting as all that may sound, we first need to get some background on the zodiac sign.

Gemini is an air sign. In astrology, air is the element of the mind; it is what helps us rationalize, synthesize, research, reason, and express our thoughts. Gemini is also a mutable sign (the only mutable air sign in the zodiac, as a matter of fact), which simply means the Twins like to move around, adapt, and shapeshift. Ruled by Mercury, the thinking/speaking/writing/learning planet, Gemini’s number one goal in life is to communicate with and learn from other people.

Cool, but what does this mean for you during 2021 Gemini Season?

Um, a lot actually. Gemini is all about adapting to the mindset of the moment. That means for the next 30 or so days, your opinions, your ideas, your interests, and your attention may shift as easily as your mood. (BTW, Gemini is one of the moodiest and ficklest signs around.)

During Taurus season, we’re focused on slowing down and relaxing, but when the Sun is in Gemini, relaxation is the last thing on our minds. Since Gemini rules the 3rd House of your Everyday Environment, you can expect more activity with familiar folks in your neck of the woods. That means more lunch dates with your siblings, more barbecues with your cousins, more happy hours with your work buds. You might even fall for your next door neighbor (unless they’re mean and ugly and forty years your senior).

The Gemini Sun wants us to connect with and charm people, brainstorm with our buds, dine at trendy hangouts, go outside and breathe in the fresh air (because Gemini is an air sign, hello!), and explore local spots around town.

Gemini season sees us expressing our ideas and theories to anyone who’ll listen. Social Media platforms such as Twitter, IG, TikTok, even Zoom are going to see a lot more action. And so will your phone. I’m talking texts, calls, FaceTime (or whatever the Samsung equivalent is), and however else you spread the word and connect with others. These communication networks are going to be buzzing like a bee hive in spring.

Totes, but didn’t you say something about trickery?

Yes, I did. I also said Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the OG trickster planet, which is how and where the sign inherits most of its versatility. That, and the Twin glyph.

The mutable air sign is represented by a set of Twins, which means there are at least two sides to every story told by, and involving Gemini. And this is especially true during Gemini Season.

For the next four weeks, you may mirror the dual-desired Gemini, and find that you want and pursue two people, two goals, or two jobs simultaneously. The tricky part is knowing which of the two (or three or four…) you want more. As you try to figure this you, you may also be: flitting from one idea and social circle to the next, involving yourself in only the surface layer of subjects or people, starting projects with no intention of finishing them, but still concocting whimsical fantasies about said projects, ideas, and/or social circles, and making plans only to break them the next day. Naturally, this can cause some trouble in your life if you aren’t careful.

Say it isn’t so, but I just did (weren’t you listening?). When the Sun is in the mutable air sign, we can be as superficial and fickle as we are witty and ingenious. Gemini Season can also inspire emotional coolness, gossipy conversations, and that aforementioned trickery, especially in our love lives, but you gotta take the good with the bad.

Gemini Season sees us chasing after just about anything that is fun and exciting, and that offers us a chance to flex our intellects, charm people with words, chat with friends, and shift our perspectives. On the upside, our thinking is clearer and more creative. We can eloquently relay our thoughts and ideas to others in ways that make them think they’re talking to a poet. However, there’s a downside: Inattentiveness, seeking out distractions, emotional superficiality, lack of commitment, busy mind, gossip, and… everything I mentioned in paragraph 11.
