Cancer season, which runs from June 21 through July 22, is a season of heightened feeling, heightened imagination and hyper-inhibition. During this time of year, you are more compassionate, more intuitive, more sensitive to the thoughts / words / actions of others.
Bonus: Cancer season also marks the ~official~ beginning of summer (in the U.S.) with the Summer Solstice. Summer is typically an extroverted time of year – you go to the beach, go on road trips, etc – but don’t be shocked if you feel like an introverted hermit these next few weeks.
Ruled by the Moon, Cancer’s glyph is the Crab and you can expect to act similarly to the crustacean this Cancer season: zig-zagging your way to your goals, hiding in your “shell” (i.e.: house, apartment, car – anywhere that offers you protection from the cruelty of the outside world), experiencing a longing to be seen and to stow away, itching to give and receive lots of laughter, nurturing and TLC…
It’s understandable that you may from time to time feel a bit crabby and lash out (like Tom Hanks recently did). That’s what Cancers do. (My dad is a Cancer, so I can say that.) But when or how severely you’ll lash out depends on this season’s planetary transits. So, without further ado:
Your Cosmic Weather Forecast for 2022 Cancer Season
On June 22, Venus, the planet of love and money, enters airy Gemini until July 17th. That means our relationships and finances for most of Cancer season will be fraught with fickleness, flightiness and impulsivity. Expect to spontaneously spend on random gadgets and to flirt mindlessly with pretty much everyone and anyone who comes your way.
June 28 has a double shot of transits: Neptune stations retrograde in 25° Pisces and there’s a new moon in Cancer.
Retrograde Neptune is a time for creative, spiritual and/or mystical reflection. Your intuition and imagination may feel as low resolution as an iPhone 4, and you might need to see if you’re overidealizing certain people. Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) need to be especially mindful of where in their lives they’re deceiving themselves and/or others.
The Cancer new moon (which is exact at 7:52 p.m. ET) is packed with transits.
Jupiter in Aries is square–or very tensely aspecting–the new moon, which makes us extra sensitive. A minor incident might shatter your confidence or sense of security for days. On the plus side, Jupiter is making a sextile–or, more constructively harmonious– to Venus in Gemini. Jupiter sextile Venus imbues us with good vibes and makes a choice few of us (Aries, Gemini) extra lucky. Love, money and long-term aspirations benefit.
Mars and Saturn are also linking up with the sextile (ooh, why does that sound naughty…?), which will help align your drive with your discipline. Retrograde Neptune and Pluto are also making a sextile, and astrology.com says you’ll be “experiencing a powerful reminder to keep a sacred promise that human beings should be a bridge to each other, rather than a burden.” Marty Mcfly would agree with me when I say, that’s some heavy sh*t.
On July 5, Mars enters the slow sign of Taurus. Expect to plot, plod and plan. While Mercury enters Cancer, taking our need for emotional communication and our clairvoyance up a level. You won’t be this sensitive (and reactive) to subtext and body language for a while.
The Capricorn full moon on July 13 is another transit-packed lunation. Venus in Gemini is trine Saturn in Aquarius, which is good for long-term investments (or so Astrology King says), so you might finally buy or sell your crypto stocks once and for all. Venus is also square retrograde Neptune in Pisces, which could create some confusion and disillusionment regarding your money, relationships and/or spirituality. Plus, Mercury in Cancer is sextile Uranus in Taurus and square Chiron in Aries. Expect to wanna plan major changes and to also feel very conflicted about doing so.
On July 17, Venus enters Cancer, shifting how we relate and spend. Venus in Cancer wants us to hold everything close – people, money, belongings – and there’s a stronger craving for emotional security and intimacy. This can create some thunderstorms… You might be moodier, more sensitive and sentimental, but at least you’ll be saving more money and nostalgic trinkets.
Last but certainly not least, on July 19, Mercury enters fiery Leo and Chiron stations retrograde in Aries. Mercury in Leo fires up your mind and makes you hella motivated to write, sell and share your ideas. Whereas retrograde Chiron brings back those lingering sore spots surrounding your identity, ego and self-assertion. It’s a good time to grab your hanky and blanky, and curl up on the couch for a good cry…
