OK. You’ve made it through yet another year–kudos to you’dos–but we’ve still got another zodiac season shift. That’s right, it’s time to say adios to the Bill and Ted wild stallion energy of Sagittarius and embrace your inner skeptical old goat: The sun has shifted into earth sign Capricorn.
Capricorn season, which runs from Dec. 21 to Jan. 20, is a season of cynicism, materialism, and soooo much judgment. Just kidding! (Or am I?) While it’s true that Capricorn has a reputation for being the zodiac’s crusty old grandpa, Saturn-ruled Capricorn season is actually an energizing time–at least for your goals and professional projects. (Btw, this solar shift also marks the first day of winter in North America, with the Winter Solstice. So, that’s cool.)
Yep, the structure-and-discipline-loving cardinal earth sign loves to put its nose to the grindstone and get sh*t done. Which is likely what you’ll be doing for the next month or so. You might also be bossing yourself around, building your brand and/or side hustle, sprucing up your LinkedIn profile, and/or motivating yourself to achieve more.
Notice there are only me-focused activities in that list. That’s because Capricorn season puts the focus on y-o-u. After all, this zodiac sign is oh-so-famous for its list of loners. Don’t believe me? Here’s a short list of solopreneur Capricorn celebrities:
- Kit Harrington a.k.a Jon Snow
- Meghan Trainor
- Timothée Chalamet
- Dolly Parton
- LeBron James
- Dave Grohl
And that’s just off the top of my head. So, get ready to summon your inner overachiever / businessperson / paranoid old person / King James, and seek both status and recognition, while showing everyone just how reliable, practical, and responsible you are.
In true Capricorn fashion, there are lots of planetary upheavals and opportunities to prove yourself. So, without further ado:
Your Cosmic Weather Forecast for 2022 Capricorn Season
Dec. 23 is a double whammy transit day: the asteroid Chiron stations direct in Aries and it’s a new moon in Capricorn.
Chiron represents our core wounds and how to heal them. Chiron retrograde has likely brought to the surface some super sensitive issues about our selfhood and identity. With the asteroid direct in Aries, we can fearlessly charge headfirst into a new cycle of self-development and remove whatever is stifling our individuality.
With the new moon in Capricorn on Dec. 23, there’s a massive opportunity to reset your goals as we move into the new year. That’s because Jupiter is square the new moon, swelling both your awareness and desire for achievement and glory. (Click here to read your Jupiter in Aries horoscope.)
The optimistic energy of this new moon is necessary heading into the final week of 2022. Because on Dec. 29, mind planet Mercury stations retrograde in hard-headed Capricorn.
Yep, NYE 2022 is fraught with some communication frustration, but it doesn’t have to be that big of a deal. As with every other retrograde cycle, it’s important to remember to double-check your emails and texts before you send them, avoid starting new projects or submitting new paperwork, and never–ever–text back your ex. Here’s more info on Mercury Rx.
2023 arrives with a Venus shift. On Jan. 2, Venus enters airy Aquarius.
The love planet’s transit through the future-focused fixed air sign brings out a collective fascination with all things futuristic and eccentric. We’re also hella curious about other people and seek out stimulating mental exchanges. If ever there’s a time for light-hearted debates about whether aliens are real, it’s during Venus in Aquarius.
A few days later, on Jan. 6–yes, THE Jan. 6–we have a full moon in nostalgic Cancer.
This full moon is sure to bring back memories of that infamous insurrection, not only because of Cancer’s notorious love of yesterday, but also because of the opposition made by Mercury Retrograde.
Btw, Mercury retrograde often brings back people, projects, and problems from the past. Retrograde Uranus in Taurus is also sextile this full moon, so just about anything can happen. Literally. Uranus is the planet of unexpected shake-ups and events. So, watch out.
By Jan. 13, Mars stations direct in 8° Gemini. This is great news for your communications, and pretty much any ongoing writing projects or goals you feel have been stymied since October. Check out your Mars in Gemini horoscope for more info about what this transit means for your zodiac sign.
And rounding out Capricorn season, is another end to a retrograde: on Jan. 19, Mercury stations direct in 8° Capricorn. Communications can once again run smoothly, as can any short-term plans.
You may have noticed that both Mars and Mercury will station direct at 8°. This is a significant degree for this zodiac season. In numerology, Capricorn and Saturn are ruled by the number 8, and it is a number often associated with both spirituality and materialism. The number 8 is also a number of self-confidence, ego, wisdom, and authority. So, take from that what you will and enjoy this run of Capricorn season.
