In astrology, Critical Degrees are specific points in the zodiac that supercharge a planet or placement. Think of them as astro hot spots where a sign’s energy goes from subtle to full-on SHOWTIME. Planets at these degrees don’t play nice—they command attention, demand action, and usually come with a plot twist or six.

These degrees aren’t critical like your judgy aunt at Thanksgiving. They’re critical in the pivotal, intense, wake-up-call sense. A turning point. A “you can’t ignore this anymore” energy spike in your chart or the sky.

The Critical Degrees in Astrology

Astrologers love their specifics, and here are the traditionally recognized Critical Degrees (according to our trusty source, Café Astrology):

• 0, 13, and 26 degrees of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)

• 8–9 and 21–22 degrees of Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)

• 4 and 17 degrees of Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)

But let’s not stop there—because 0° and 29° of any sign are also considered critical. Why? Because 0° is the birth cry of a sign—it’s raw, fresh, a cosmic baby still figuring things out. And 29°? That’s the end of the line. It’s seasoned, weary, and one emotional breakdown away from starting over.
